Flat Perspective
June 26th 2009
This is a quick one day project investigating the idea of flipping optical illusions on their head. Instead of making a flat object appear 3D I sought to make a 3D space feel 2D.
4 Week Feminism Project
June 25th 2009
From initial concept of what topic to cover to the creation of final pieces, including pattern development and background research were all completed within a four week time frame whilst working on other smaller projects.
The idea of this project was to take about the word “feminism” from the media, myself and others I had given research papers too felt had misshapen from it’s original meaning. Feminism is the seeking of equal rights for women to the same level as men, not as the media often represents it, the hating and removing of men from society.
The work created here is deliberately subtle in it’s dealing with a difficult and often confusing subject. It is intended to allow young people (16-24 year olds) to slowly become more comfortable with the subject and be more willing to openly discuss it. The campaign would run in a similar way to and advertising campaign, with posters etc handed out. In addition to these, various products relating to the statistics sewn into the items would be available in places such as Urban Outfitters.
The key element here is that each pattern relates to a specific statistic and is in fact at it’s core, data representation, but in a much more friendly and approachable way.
The Blakes
April 2nd 2009
Here’s another poster I created for the seattle club Chop Suey in capitol hill, which all you Seattlites should check out by the way. As usual (unfortunately) this was a very short project and a quick mock up and creation exercise than I’d like. I usually prefer to research into and play with ideas before creating work, however there wasn’t any time for that, so this is a quick sketch and execution of ideas. Colour palette was limited, with the only colour (if you exclude white) being provided by the coloured paper.
OK GO Poster

Here’s a poster I made recently for a club called Chop Suey in my old home of Seattle.
Broken City
November 13th 2008
This piece was created as a response to a project on my course related to cities and incidents which had effected them. I created the idea of a once great city being reclaimed by nature and man kind returning to a much more simple time. Using simplistic drawing techniques and invoking a Pixar cartoon style to create a more youthful and questioning piece.
Don’t Believe the Type
November 13th 2008
Here’s another illustration in a style that’s becoming more and more natural for me. The various different techniques I’ve cultivated over the last few years seem to be coming together in more comfortable and fluid ways than they have done previously as my work takes on a more organic creative process. This piece speaks fairly strongly for itself, so there’s not much left to say except, enjoy.
Shatter
November 13th 2008
This is an experimental typography piece I produced a while back, simply scanned in an cleaned up. You may have to move back from the screen a little in order to get the full effect.
Such Great Heights
September 10th 2008
This has to be one of my favourite pieces. I’m not entirely sure what to say about it except for the fact that it makes me happy every time I look at it. It’s got a lot of metaphors that won’t make a whole lot of sense to many people, but that’s most of the point of the piece. It’s for me and the little lady only to really “get”.
Something I’m striving for in my work is removing any signs of how a piece is done. I don’t want the viewer to be distracted by wandering if it was a photoshop job, or a painting or an ink drawing and so on. I feel that the purity of the piece and its ideas should shine through and be the center of attention.
